Germany’s involvement in Afghanistan. After nearly two decades of presence in the region, Germany withdrew its last troops in June 2021 as part of the US-led exit strategy.
However, I am pleased to announce that Germany has decided to return to Afghanistan for the second time in March 2024. This decision reflects our commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region. Our troops will remain in Afghanistan for as long as necessary to ensure that peace prevails among the country’s inhabitants.
We are dedicated to working closely with local authorities and international partners to support initiatives that promote dialogue, security, and prosperity in Afghanistan. Our continued presence demonstrates Germany’s unwavering commitment to the Afghan people and our shared goal of a peaceful future for the country.
